COVID-19 & Sexual Health

COVID-19 & Sexual Health

Club X Blog

As each day passes, more and more restrictions are being put on Australians to slow the spread of COVID-19.

We all want to look after our health and we’re being urged to practice good hygiene, social distancing, self isolation and to avoid unnecessary contact with others.

So how does this affect our sex lives?

Firstly, there has been no evidence (yet) to suggest that COVID-19 can be transmitted sexually.

However, sexual intercourse and physical intimacy requires close, personal contact; so the risk of transmitting the virus is already prominent, regardless.

Lockdown restrictions are also being put in place by the Australian Government to help us exercise social distancing and slow the spread.

So at this stage, unless you and your partner(s) are living together, engaging in physical sexual contact with others is pretty restricted right now.

Should you live with your sexual partner(s), you already have a relatively equal risk of the virus whether you are intimate or not, as COVID-19 is so easily transmitted within households.

If you’re not living together, you should consider a few things like your housing, working and commuting arrangements.

For example; If you and your partner(s) are working from home, self isolating and only leaving the house for necessities, then the risk of transmitting the virus is lower.

However, if you and/or your partner(s) cannot work from home, commute via public transport and/or live with housemates who are doing the same thing, then the risks are higher.

Depending on your circumstances, sex in polyamorous relationships may be a hard thing to safely achieve right now, so all parties and their working/living conditions must be considered thoroughly.

If you’re single, it’s important to limit the amount of partners you’re having casual sex with, and meeting new sexual partners is not recommended during this time.

If you or your partner(s) have tested positive, have symptoms or are at high risk of COVID-19, physical intimacy and/or sex is not recommended at all.

Communication is an absolutely vital part of sexual health, so it’s important for you and your partner(s) to discuss the potential risks of COVID-19 that may come with sex and/or physical intimacy during this pandemic.

There are a lot of circumstances to factor in when making a decision to practice safe sex, but essentially; the more exposure, the bigger the risk.

We must all act responsibly. If you choose not to abstain from sex and physical contact completely, then you must ensure you’re taking the right steps to limit the risks, as well as considering the affect your decision may have on others.

It’s also important to keep in mind the government restrictions that are in place and adhere accordingly.

STAY AT HOME

This is the perfect time to utilise safe, alternative ways to get intimate with others, and it’s also a great time for exploring solo sex and masturbation.

With so many resources at the click of a button, there are plenty of ways to get intimate while eliminating the risks of COVID-19.

In fact, it’s an encouraging time to get playful and creative.

 My Top Three Recommendations:

 App Controlled Toys

  • App-controlled toys are something that we’ve seen take over the market in recent years, and rightfully so! These sex toys are app-enabled for those who can’t always be together, making it easy to get intimate even when you’re apart. Jump on face-time, use the app to control the toy (even if you’re on the other side of the world), and see how far you can push your partner. You can choose from different settings and functions, or even create your own vibration patterns. No touching necessary!

Webcam/Phone Sex

  • Phone sex is something that has been around since the dawn of time and it’s such a simple way to get intimate without touch. You can even take it to the next level with video call or webcam. The best thing about phone sex is that everything is about imagination! There are no limits to fantasy, so the possibilities are endless. You can be anyone you want, so it’s a great way to role-play some fantasies that you're yet to fulfill. It can also be a really helpful way to get comfortable trying some new things with your partner(s).

Exploring Yourself

  • Take this time to get to know yourself! This is a great opportunity to really explore your mind, body & soul, and find out what you really like. Pay more attention to the things you find arousing and research what you can do to enhance that arousal. You can experiment with different toys, watch a different genre of porn, and/or try some different masturbation and orgasm techniques. Exploring your needs and desires is a necessary part of achieving a healthy and satisfying sex life, so use this time to your advantage.

This crazy time won't last forever!

While for now, it might be harder for you to fulfil your sexual lifestyle the way you would normally, limiting yourself to safe practice is always the answer when it comes to your sexual health.
